What Makes Our Meat Different?

At our family farm, we take a different approach to raising animals—one that prioritizes animal welfare, environmental stewardship, regenerative agriculture and food integrity from start to finish. We do this by being certified organic and certified humane.
Poultry Raised Outside on Grass
Our laying hens, meat chickens, and turkeys spend their time outdoors on our organic pasture from late spring through early fall. Their shelters are open on one side, leading to a covered range area. This allows them to move freely between, sun, shade and shelter, finding their own comfort zone. We cover the ranges with tin roofs for protection from aerial predators, extra shade on hot days, and to keep the area dry during rain.
Weather permitting, we move their shelters daily to fresh grass, giving them constant access to new forage, insects, and bugs. On very rainy days, we keep them on dry ground to make sure they are comfortable (poultry do not like really wet conditions). The shelters are surrounded by electric netting to keep out predators like foxes, coyotes, and skunks.
Year round all our poultry are fed certified organic, non-GMO feed that is made by us on the farm. We add organic alfalfa meal (dried alfalfa grass harvested at peak nutrition, then dried and crumbled into meal) so they receive greens even during summer droughts or winter. In colder months, they’re housed in bright, warm barns with lots of windows to let in the winter sunshine, ample space and fresh bedding, allowing them to express their natural behaviors. We process all our poultry right here on the farm in our own inspected facility.
No antibiotics, growth promotents, hormones, GMO’s or animal byproducts are ever given to our poultry
100% Grass-Fed & Finished Cattle
Our cattle are never confined in feedlots. They are 100% grass-fed and finished, moved daily across our fresh organic pastures using time-controlled grazing. This system supports soil health, regenerates grasslands, and provides the cattle with constant access to fresh grass. In winter, they move to their winter pasture, provided with windbreaks and lots of organic straw to bed down in, and are fed organic hay and alfalfa pellets (dried alfalfa grass harvested at peak nutrition, then dried and pressed into pellets to make it easier for the cattle to eat and less dusty). They are never given any hormones, antibiotics or chemical treatments.
Pastured Pigs
In the spring summer and fall our pigs live outdoors in movable shelters that are moved daily to our organic fresh pasture. These shelters provide sun and rain protection, with fresh water always available. When it’s time to farrow (give birth), sows are brought into spacious, heated areas to allow us to monitor them closely and keep the newborn piglets warm and dry. Our pigs are never confined in farrowing crates. In winter, pigs enjoy being outside where they are given lots of straw bedding to burrow into on the cold days.
Our pigs are fed certified organic, non-GMO feed that is made by us on the farm. No antibiotics, growth promotents, ractopamine, hormones or animal byproducts are ever used
On-Farm Meat Cutting & Clean Ingredients
We cut and package all of our own meat, including making our own sausages, bacons, and deli meats in our government inspected on-farm facility. Every product is free from preservatives, fillers, gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, and nuts. All of our sausages , bacons, hot dogs, hamburger patties and deli meats are made with real ingredients. Just our own organic meat, organic spices, organic tomatoes, fruits and seasoning and, when needed, a touch of organic honey or maple syrup for sweetness.
Ability To Visit Our Farm
Every Labour Day Monday in September, we welcome our customers to the farm. Visitors can walk with us though the pastures, see the animals, and experience firsthand how the animals are raised. Register For The Day Here
These practices—centered on respect for animals, the environment, and our customers—are just some of the ways we do things differently. We’re proud of our commitment to raising animals the certified organic and certified humane way and remain dedicated to doing so every day.
