What's In Our Sausages & Deli Meats and More Importantly What's NOT In Them

We often list the number of things that are not in our sausages, deli meats bacon and hot dogs. This is a long list and it dawned on us this week that the fact that we have this extremally long list of everything that is Not in our sausages is not a good sign of what is in the vast majority of food that is in our supermarkets. These are filled with ultra processed foods and if we look specifically at the sausages and deli meats available in the grocery store these items are filled with proven unhealthy chemical preservatives, artificial food color and flavours and a myriad of other additives that have been modified or chemically altered.

These ultra processed meats are why we started making our own simple recipe sausages and deli in the first place. Our daughter had severe allergies to the chemicals and additives in the meat available and so when we could not find meat we could and wanted to eat we decided to make our own. Since 1998 this tradition of simple ingredients with no preservatives or fillers continues with every new product we make.


What’s IS in our sausages and deli meats?:

  • Our own organic and certified humane meat
  • organic spices,
  • plain unaltered sea salt,
  • when a recipe needs a bit of sweetness organic honey or maple syrup
  • For specific flavours, organic cranberries, organic canned tomatoes, and organic coconut aminos (instead of soy sauce in our teriyaki)

The long list below of what is Not in our sausages is concerning and why reading ingredients and asking questions about the food you eat is so important. When we first started looking into the ingredients of our food we carried a book around with us, a food ingredient dictionary, when we started making our own sausages our goal was to make food where you did not need to look up the ingredients to know what they were.  We are extremely proud of the sausages we make and their short ingredient lists, we hope you and your family will also enjoy them knowing you are eating healthy, clean food that is simply made with your health and the health of the environment in mind.

What’s NOT in our sausages and deli meats?

  • No Nitrates or nitrites
  • No Sulfates or sulphites
  • No Phosphates
  • No Celery extract or any cultured plant extracts (another form of nitrates)
  • No Gluten and wheat (enriched flour, wheat gluten)
  • No Potato flakes, potato flour or potato starch
  • No Rice bran, rice flour, rice starch
  • No Soy, soy isolate, soy lecithin
  • No Cane Sugar or brown sugar
  • No High fructose corn syrup, or any fructose
  • No Cheese, Milk or whey
  • No Glucose Solids
  • No Corn Syrup
  • No Dextrose
  • No Ascorbic Acid
  • No Artificial smoke
  • No Modified or Buffered Vinegar
  • No MSG
  • No Bread crumbs
  • No Eggs, egg byproducts
  • No Modified Corn Starch
  • No Potassium lactate
  • No Sodium Diacetate
  • No Baking Soda
  • No Sodium Erythorbate
  • No Lactic acid
  • No Wine
  • No Potassiumpyrophosphate
  • No Potassium Chloride
  • No Modified Milk Ingredients
