Sunworks Farm 101: What We Do and Why We Do It

We’re a family-owned farm based near Armena, Alberta, and we’ve been dedicated to sustainable regenerative organic farming practices since 1997. Our mission is simple: to raise healthy, organic, and humanely treated animals while providing high-quality products to our community.
Our Practices: Certified Organic & Certified Humane
We take pride in our commitment to the environment, our animals, and the people who enjoy our products. We strongly believe in the principals of organic regenerative agriculture and the humane handling and care of livestock. We are certified organic, which means no chemical pesticides, herbicides, or GMOs are used on our land or any of the grass or feed our animals consume. No antibiotics, hormones, or animal byproducts are fed or given to our animals. Our animals are raised humanely, ensuring they are free from hunger, pain, and distress, and they are given plenty of space to roam and express natural behaviours.
Grass-Fed & Finished Beef
We believe that healthy animals produce the healthiest food. That’s why our beef is 100% grass-fed and finished. During the summer, our cattle graze on organic pastures, and during the winter, they’re fed organic hay. This natural diet is key to the flavor and quality of our beef.
Pasture-Raised Pork, Chickens, and Hens
In addition to our beef, we also raise pasture-raised pork, chickens, and hens. During the warmer months, all of our pigs, poultry, and laying hens roam freely on our lush, organic pastures, while having access to clean organic feed. This allows them to forage, root around, and live as nature intended, contributing to the rich flavor and texture of our meats and eggs. Our animals’ access to fresh air and sunlight means they’re healthier and happier.
During the winter, we continue to care for our animals with the same commitment to their well-being. Our pigs are kept outside with shelters full of straw, where they have plenty of space to move around, and are provided with organic feed. Our chickens and hens are raised in warm barns that protect them from the harsh and unpredictable Alberta winter conditions while ensuring they stay warm and healthy. This allows them to remain in a comfortable, safe environment throughout the colder months.
Allergy-Friendly & Celiac-Safe Products
We know that many of our customers, like us, have dietary restrictions, and we want to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy our products. That’s why all our sausages, hot dogs, bacon, and deli meats are free from gluten, soy, egg, dairy, corn, nitrates, phosphates, sulfates, and MSG. Whether you have food allergies, sensitivities, or a restricted diet you can trust that our products are safe for your family.
Local & Sustainable
We believe in supporting local economies and reducing our environmental footprint. All our animals are raised by us on our farm in Central Alberta, processed in Alberta, cut and packaged by us on the farm, and sold right here in Alberta. This means that not only are you supporting our farm, but you’re also contributing to the local community, local economy and minimizing transportation emissions.
