Local and Organic-Two Food Movements That are Better Together.

The last few years have highlighted the importance of buying local. Buying local is extremely important because it keeps money flowing within a local economy, creates local jobs and reduces the travel time of food which reduces the carbon impact of the food that you consume. However, the word local only applies to where the food was produced, not how it was produced or how clean it is. Certified Organic is an indicator of how the food was produced. Certified organic prohibits the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, prohibits antibiotics, growth hormones and other growth enhancing drugs such as ractopamine. Organic does not allow GMO’s as both seed or feed, it ensures basic animal welfare standards, it has been shown to increase biodiversity and because of these methods of production has a smaller carbon footprint.
Local does not necessarily equal clean food and clean food does not always equal local food. However, when you are able to combine both local and organic you have created a powerful food movement that can have a great positive impact on all aspects of the world- environmentally, socially, and economically.
We are proud to be able to provide you with our local organic meat so you can contribute to this powerful food movement.
