Once upon a time not very long ago, this outdoor market was a summer-and-fall-only affair. Now that it’s under wraps, so to speak, you’ll be amazed at what awaits you. From apples to zinfandel jelly, candy cane beets to croissants, a diverse collection of seasonal specialties may be had at the Calgary Farmer’s Market at Currie Barracks. Here is a taste of just some of what you’ll find at the market in the late-winter light. (And don’t forget the wonderful vendors and wares to be found at the Crossroads Market at Ogden Road and Blackfoot Trail, also open year-round. We will visit them in another issue.)

... Sunworks/Blush Lane is a multi-generational multi-booth that makes the most of strategic alliances. Shop here for great organic free-range poultry and meats, but also find Infuse Catering’s toothsome breads, Grainworks organic grains, and divinely rich heavy cream from Vital Greens. Blush Lane teamed up with Rob Horricks of Organic Express to supplement their own homegrown produce. Roast some Pink Lady apples and Red Anjou pears.

And that’s just a beginning — come see for yourself.
