Armena farm nominated for Farm Direct Award

Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development and the Alberta Farm Fresh Producers Association presented the first ever Alberta Farm Direct Marketer of the year award for 2004 to Tam Anderson of Prairie Gardens and Greenhouses of Bon Accord.

Also nominated was Ron and Sheila Hamilton near Armena.
     
In eight years Sunworks Farm achieved their goal of earning their entire family income from the farm. Starting 1996 with certified organic land and 100 chickens, they now raise and direct market over 30,000 broilers, 1,400 turkeys and eggs from 800 layers.

The Hamilton’s are active in many associations including, Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market Board, Alberta Beef Forage Advisory Council, Go Organics, The Farm Direct Protein Team, Alberta Lamb and the Alberta Farmers’ Market Association.
