THE COUNTRY BOOSTER November 6, 2001

Sunworks Farm co-owner Shae Hamilton collects eggs to sell at Farmers’ Markets in Strathcona and Calgary. Sunworks Farms currently has 300 laying hens and 280 replacement hens which will start laying in about four weeks.

Laying hens are just one part of the Sunworks Farm operation, which in the summer of 2001 raised 10,500 certified organic broilers, 300 ducks, 50 geese, 300 turkeys, 300 laying hens, 25 pigs and a small cow/calf herd, all on pasture. While most of its meat products are sold directly to the consumer at farmers’ markets and farm gate sales, the farm has also placed its products in health food stores and “white table” restaurants in Edmonton and Calgary.

Sunworks Farm is sponsoring an Energizing the Family Farm conference at the Camrose Regional Exhibition November 8, featuring author Joel Salatin as keynote presenter. Salatin will also be conducting a Relationship Marketing workshop at the CRE November 9.
